Taylor Swift's possible influence on the forthcoming election has sparked considerable debate, as new research reveals that her endorsement could sway a significant portion of her fanbase's votes, potentially impacting the national outcome. According to a study by QuestionPro, many of Taylor Swift's fans, known as "Swifties," who are also registered voters, may change their vote as a result of her choice of a presidential candidate.
“With 161 million registered voters in the US, our data suggests that a Swift endorsement could be the ballgame in this election. If her endorsement can switch the vote of 30 percent or more of her fans, Taylor Swift could very much mean the difference between a Democrat or a Republican victory,” said Dan Fleetwood, President of Research and Insights for QuestionPro.
According to the survey, nearly half of respondents (47%) said they want to vote for Harris/Walz, while 31% prefer Trump/Vance and 22% are thinking about voting for another candidate.
Additionally, more than half of the respondents (51%) said that an endorsement from Taylor Swift would influence their vote, with 25% stating it would "significantly" influence their choice. Meanwhile, 37% said Swift's endorsement would not influence their vote.
Surprisingly, about 30% of those who support either Trump or Harris stated they would reconsider their vote if Swift endorsed a politician other than the one they now support. Given the many Swift followers in the United States, this impact may be critical in determining the election's outcome. According to a Morning Consult survey from 2023, 53% of U.S. adults consider themselves Swift fans, with 44% identifying as "Swifties" and 16% as "avid" fans.
As Taylor Swift's influence goes beyond the music industry, it's no surprise that fans not only want her to guide their vote but also wish she could be the voice answering their customer service calls.
