Cognizant to Develop Healthcare Large Language Model Solutions on Google Cloud

Cognizant has announced that it will leverage Google Cloud generative AI technology to build healthcare large language model (LLM) solutions.

This news comes on the heels of Cognizant's expanded partnership with Google Cloud, announced in May when the company revealed plans to "accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) by businesses worldwide."

The primary objective of the program is to enhance administrative processes in areas like appeals, grievances, and member engagement in healthcare. To achieve this, a comprehensive initiative will be launched, making use of the powerful Google Cloud Vertex AI platform. Additionally, Cognizant's expertise in artificial intelligence and in-depth knowledge of the healthcare industry will play a crucial role in the project's success.

"Together, Cognizant and Google Cloud are moving beyond highly publicized content generation applications of generative AI to build enterprise healthcare solutions that drive significant cost optimization, business efficiencies and better experience. We're excited to be working closely with Google Cloud to realize the potential this new technology offers and demonstrate its business value for healthcare clients," said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant.

LLMs can help streamline highly complex administrative tasks in healthcare which often require human interference and interpretation. For example, LLMs can automate turning legal contracts into clear payment rules, allowing payment specialists to focus on contract nuance and delivering consistent outcomes.

"Google Cloud's generative AI capabilities are helping healthcare organizations set a new standard for operations. Our expanded partnership with Cognizant gives our mutual healthcare customers a range of technologies to help them transform in ways that were not possible before," said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.

Both companies prioritize privacy and security, adhering to responsible AI principles and approaches. To ensure data protection, the two use Google Cloud's robust infrastructure and secure data storage, which is compliant with HIPAA regulations. Additionally, each customer benefits from tailored security and privacy controls to safeguard their data and processes.

In 2021, Cognizant strengthened its partnership with Google Cloud by establishing a dedicated Google Cloud Business Group (GBG), with the primary objective being the acceleration of the cloud modernization journeys of mutual clients.
