Press Ganey Partners with Epic to Streamline Reporting Processes in Patient Care

Press Ganey has revealed a partnership to incorporate nurse-sensitive indicators (NSI), the specific patient outcomes influenced by nursing care, from Epic into its National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). This collaboration is set to streamline reporting processes, saving time for nursing and quality leaders while also fostering nursing excellence and expediting efforts to enhance patient care.

"Our expanded collaboration with Epic to integrate reporting of nursing sensitive indicators is a pivotal step towards using real-time data to improve the experience and quality of care. By removing manual reporting of quality and safety data, we can reduce work for nursing leaders and speed up the time to insight and action,” said Darren Dworkin, President and Chief Operating Officer for Press Ganey.

This partnership closely follows Press Ganey's substantial $500 million, five-year investment to integrate generative AI into its HX Platform.

The NDNQI, established by Press Ganey, is a platform that gathers and evaluates nursing data from a vast network of over 2000 participating organizations. It enables nurse leaders to evaluate and compare their performance across more than 53,000 units and clinical environments. The national database provides invaluable insights by housing a collection of 600 measures assessing clinical quality and patient outcomes, including over 250 nursing-sensitive indicators like falls, pressure injuries, and hospital-acquired infections.

Enhancing patient care with actionable insights

Through the integration of NDNQI with Epic, the reporting of critical safety outcomes will be automated, focusing on five key care indicators: CAUTI, CLABSI, Falls (Inpatient and Outpatient), and Pressure Injuries. This collaboration marks a significant step in aligning Epic's process measure indicators with NDNQI's quality outcomes and extensive benchmarks, aiming to offer actionable insights for enhancing patient care.

This initiative builds upon Press Ganey's prior collaboration with Epic, particularly through its Workshop initiative, which aimed to integrate patient experience data with health records. Known as the "PX Connect Suite," this joint offering allows Press Ganey and Epic clients to leverage patient experience insights directly at the frontline of care delivery, streamlining personalized experiences and ensuring high-quality, safe care.

To advance this collaborative effort, Epic and Press Ganey have conducted a series of focus groups and will continue engaging with clients to steer the development process effectively.

“The new integration technologies developed in Workshop will allow nurse leaders to devote more time to acting on data, with an aim to ultimately enhance the quality of care. This collaboration intends not only to reduce the amount of required abstracting and formatting but also ensure that documentation supports the essential work of nurses in keeping patients safe,” said Emily Barey, MSN, Vice President for Nursing at Epic.

Prior to this, Epic joined forces with Genesys to transform patient journeys in healthcare by integrating the Genesys Cloud platform with Epic's Cheers CRM suite.
